two very different shows marked the second day of fashion week.
using a largely similar colour palette of black and white, both collections couldn’t have been more contrasting in artistic interpretation and creative direction.
porsche design kicked off the evening with an amazingly geometrical, structured collection that paid homage to the early 80s. I spied little elements of early-day geoffrey beene, claude montana and azzedine alaia throughout the collection, which included such fabulous details as voluminous silhouettes, oversized collars and patch pockets. It was a precise, controlled, well-edited collection that left one wanting more ! and if you thought it looked amazing on the runway, it was even more beautiful up close. after working on the show, producers dominic min clarke, bryan gamboa, sam yeo and I are new fans of the german label.
anne fontaine kept the fashion torch burning with an unexpected collection that was all about the new androgynous ambiguity of the sexy parisian woman. a superb collection, in predominately black and white, with injections of cobalt blue and burnt sunset for contrasts, and the juxtaposition of light fabrics and heavier , oversized, enveloping pieces.
