being on the road for the better part of january means having to prep for the coming chinese new year whilst travelling from one fashion city to another. and my stylist, audrey ong, and i stumbled upon some fab, on-trend items at luisa via roma when i was in florence which , i think , are perfect to create a splash this festive season.
floral prints are a major fashion story this spring, and these pieces by mary katrantzou and givenchy are statement-making, especially when paired with some serious accessories.
found some fab printed clutches too, a limited-edition collab between the store and dutch fabric designers vlisco http://www.luisaviaroma.com/FullTextSearch.aspx?FullSearchText=vlisco&season=actual&gender=women
good news for non-fans of the colour red, for according to the feng shui experts, 2014 is the year of the wood horse – so in order to befriend the ruling horse , to be in harmony with his energy. it is recommended to wear the colours of the wood feng shui element ie all shades of green and brown.
in addition, you can also wear the colours of the water and earth elements, because these two elements support wood in it’s growth and well-being. therefore, the colours blue and black ( water ) as well as all earthy tones , are good for the coming year.
here are some interesting pieces i picked off their website :
*dolce & gabbana lace dress
*marni printed silk-cotton ottaman
*mary katrantzou viscose / cotton blend toile dress
*dolce&gabbana cotton silk peach blossom jacket
*balmain stretch houndstooth cady jacket
here’s something chic you can wear without worrying about overstuffing yourself with CNY goodies
*antonio marras cotton poplin dress, paired with a dramatic iosselliani necklace ( which also looks great with a valentino silk moroccan jumpsuit )
bags are always a good way to make a eye-catching statement
it’s always good feng shui to have a bit of gold on you, and the following bags, by proenza schouler , charlotte olympia and thale blanc, as well as the watch bracelet by maison martin margiela, fulfil all the good-luck requirements.
if you must have a flash of red, try going the accessory route
try the emanuele bicocchi fringe mono cuff earrings for a different fashion statement
don’t forget the shoes, which complete every outfit.
check out these rose gold, strappy rupert sandersons, for double the feng shui luck ?
i guess you can get away with a touch of black for chinese new year, no ?

loving this boglioli cotton blend crepe jacket, perfect for warmer climates ( like my hometown singapore )
if it’s really hot and humid where you are, try this look from vivienne westwood. i’m grabbing a pair of the checked wool blend cropped trousers for myself ( but i’ll probably match it with her petrol rubber brogues instead of sandals )
always make sure your bag is big enough for all the ang pows you’ll be receiving … or giving …. 🙂
check out bonastre’s vegetable leather nubuck backpack in stylish hermes orange
the looks above are just the tip of the iceberg ; the combinations available are endless, and there’s something for everyone, regardless of taste or style.
