the art scene is singapore is abuzz with excitement as the affordable art fair descends upon our shores again. and to celebrate, singapore gallery art front organised a special invite-only party last monday, which saw a multi-disciplinary, carefully curated collaboration between a young indonesian artist, a cult scottish icon, an edgy design collective and a bespoke culinary connoisseur.
iqi qoror is an emerging indonesian artist whose work has always held an underlying layer of sartorial chic and layered mysteriousness – each piece evokes a different emotion, and every collector takes away a different interpretation of these works, depending on how it has touched them.
likewise, the cult appeal of bruichladdich. it is a scottish icon hailing from the exotic isle of islay, and is the industry’s best-kept secret – a name synonymous with chic, sophistication and mystery. every bruichladdich aficionado has their very own tale to tell, and their very own emotion attached to their enjoyment of the drink.
it was hardly co-incidental that the worlds of the artist and the scottish icon were destined to collide …. in the form of black art – the inspiration behind iqi’s directional new works and the name of the whisky’s special edition brew.
the artist was given the image and the philosophy behind bruichladdich’s black art, and created several new works influenced by it. i was inspired by both to curate a space that would evoke the sentiment of each. producer bryan gamboa consolidated all our visions and created an event that would elicit the different emotions attached to black art, including a special black art score, and worked with caterer amici to create a black art palatte of bespoke canapes for the night. hip underground creative group outeredit worked on the design of the collaterials, whilst music agency luther music worked with bryan on the haunting and hip soundtrack for the night. it’s the perfect cross-disciplinary collaboration that brought the different worlds together for one night of artistic black magic !
the star-studded turnout included personalities from the world of art, fashion, entertainment, theatre and film, including radio celebrities yasminne cheng and tim oh, actors tan shou chen and alex lim, film director AD Chan, rock star jonathan leong, fashion designer chong han san, men’s folio cover models ian luah and theck ann as well as a bevy of international models, who joined a select group of regional art collectors at the exclusive party.
i had the most amazing time working with a wonderful group of creative visionaries to curate the event.
the 5th edition ( and the 100th global affordable art fair ) takes place from the 23 – 25 may at the F1 pit building at 1 republic boulevard. remember to drop by the Art Front booth at 2B-07 to check out iqi’s works.
