modeling discovered its latest star when 15 year old Diya Prabhakar ( who’s 183 and still growing ! ) catwalked away with the top prize at the 2014 New Paper New Face contest.
The competition has a long history of launching the careers of some of singapore’s biggest fashion and entertainment personalities, including international model Vivien Ong, Singapore catwalk star Sara Chan, Miss Singapore Universe Rachel Kum and Jessica Tan, Miss Singapore World Colleen Francisca and actresses Julie Tan, Jayley Woo and Dawn Yeoh.
Diya’s win had fashion insiders, including couturier Frederick Lee, buzzing. I first discovered the model with the perfect proportions and the longest pair of legs two years ago, when she was sent by her agency to me for a go-see. I booked her for a Thomas Wee shoot immediately. Diya has, since then, grown into a self-assured, statuesque beauty with a confident strut, and I was excited at her win.
My team and I have been producing the finale show for the last 13 years, and have always enjoyed putting the thematic show together. This year, producer Bryan Gamboa, together with stylists Sharon Tan and Audrey Ong, brought everyone on a road trip with the travel-related “Planes, Trains and Automobiles”, dressing them in the fashions of Levi’s and New Look.
Some of Singapore's finest male models made appearances in the show, wearing Levi's as well as the collection by Singapore label EvenOdd
